Can anyone help me Id this oil pump on a 73 FLH? Im cleaning up the oil line plumbing and installing a new cam cover so I was going to re seal the pump while Im in it this far.
not sure if I can use oem gaskets or if I need to match them to whatever pump this is any help would be appreciated thanks!
It could be OEM or it could be an aftermarket, hard to tell by the photos. Most aftermarket pumps use the OEM gaskets and seal. I would carefully remove the gaskets when you take it apart to compare to new gaskets.
Thanks for the replies guys. Good to know most pumps use oem gaskets. But I will compare old to new to be sure.
The color of the pump and cover is just different enough, I wonder if its the stock pump with just a billet cover on it. Its nice that the chain oiler provision is gone, but it would have been nice if there was a port for the oil pressure switch
whats involved in removing the pump to reseat the check ball seat i saw a vid where a new check ball was installed and tapped a few time with a drift and hammer then the ball was replaced again with a new spring. has anyone tried this method with success ?
If you are taking it apart, lap the seat with a 3/8 ball pushrod from an evo or twinkie and valve compound. Whacking it with a hammer may work, or it may crack the seat.
its only the bolts that hold the pump on ? what i did notice is the replacement spring is around 5-6 mm longer. does that suggest the old one has lost tension ?
