guess what....on this last rebuild, i did the tranny. tired of main seal leakin all over my o ring chain. stuffed the seal on 4 th with everyting i could find, and packed the splines full of aviation smooie.been six thou and no leaks! think i finally fixed it. you do alot more engineering than i want to.

Ultraman, exactly what is "aviation smooie" and where can I get it? I have 2 nephews attached to the 114th Fighter Wing in Sioux Falls, SD. Right now, I am attempting to use "food grade" grease(from AMSOIL)to "stuff" (gotta LOVE that term, huh?) the seal and splines. S'posedly, because food grade is non-petroleum base, it will not "dissolve" when in contact with tranny oil. Clock another rider "tired" of the oil leak on the O-ring chain. 
Plus, eventually want to go with wide whites on the 78, and DO NOT want the black wall syndrome on them. Thanx in advance, GUMBY
As to the "over" engineering thing. I spent 5 1/2 yrs with nuke power plants, and my Dad was a master mind when it came to redesigning things. I do believe I can get a pan or a shovel to hum down the road alongside an 88TC, mile for mile. I have kept detailed logs/papers of "all" my stunts on these things. What has worked, I have duplicated, and what doesn't gets shelved. I have 2 buddies, one has a 72 FLH and the other a 75 FLH. I do tons of work on theirs if they buy the parts, in order to experiment. It is a "hobby" for me, and a tribute to my Dad.
