Ouch, that’s ugly. I’ve cleaned bad threads with knife edge files but as John says doubt seriously that’s salvageable. You want to put the time in try it for fit but if the nut fit is sloppy & moving all the loctite in the world won’t hold it.

Sorry man.

If you could spin the shaft, turn it down a bit, rethread a smaller size and make a properly sized and threaded sleeve to screw on. Use the Green loctite and also peen the end threads.

I am not up on Sportsters at all and don't know if it would be possible to spin the shaft via the other side somehow. Where there is a will there is generally a way.

the shaft is surface hardened - not through hardened - so that wont work and when it comes off again and it will it will take the front of the block with it

dont want to be at 70 when that happens

John....I found a used transmission for my bike for only $295.00.....I'm not even going to mess around to trying to repair shaft threads with a die (I know it would be a waste of time)....is there anything I should know as I am installing this new (used) transmission?!
