not first hand, but was told by a wrench with over 30 years of shovel riding that it was the only way to go for a mild shovel. He said that the dynas and all that are overkill, but the Compu-fire was the ticket.
I have used Compufire for over 15 years and love them.Installed them on almost every bike I have built - what you need? Maybe I can help ya.

Just a side note.
Compu-Fire doesn't make an affordable ignition for my '66 shovel, but I found a web site that sells a drop in unit for the older shovels with a distributor. http://www.ebeyond2000.net They get a lot of good reviews on other forums. I ordered one for my scoot. I ordered one for my old pig, but haven't put it in yet, as I'm in Iraq. As soon as I check it out I'll let ya'll know how it is.

Not on the subject, but I installed a module in a point distributor in a VW camper, works all the time when I had it, it's one of the most modern thing that works on older stuff like point systems, I think of it as one less thing too worry about.
Hay, keep yourself safe, get back real soon put that baby in and ride
I have been using the Crane HI-4 for quite a few years, on my street bikes and my drag bike. The early HI-4's, (ten years ago) had problems due to heat, but they've corrected that, and I've had no problems since. My .02
I ran a Comp U Fire for quite a few years until one day it just quit on me at a remote place, so I went back to points which I can fix or replace on the road. The electronic ran a little smoother but if they go you are toast. Al
Can I get an AMEN!!!!!!!!
6 cyl. Chevy and set with a Miller beer tab.
And I never saw no-one carry'in an extra set neither.
Points is no more bigga deal than solids or brake shoes or saddlebags.
A timing gun, a clear plug, a screwdriver.. and oh yeah, a beer tab (empty first).
