I have a 1979 1/2 Lowrider. The title says it is a 1979. It is one of the 80/80 bikes.
When I was younger....and my bike younger ..... a lot of my friends bought the 80/80 lowriders during the summer of '79....I could not afford one as I was in college. I got to ride several of theirs..........(long stories to tell later...)
Got the chance and finances in 1991 to buy the bike I have now.........years passed.........I let the bike sit several years (I will not say how many at this time).....put 'er in the shop this summer and we are still exorcising demons.......I rode 'er home....she loaded up on gas at an idle.
Carried 'er back. Fixed again (yes!?) rode 'er home. Loaded up on gas at idle....Kicked her again (I like kicking, but it does have electric start...)
Carb blew off of bike...In shop again.
Will give more details...
Now that I rode again and have the itch I am looking at a newer bike to ride regularly and keep the Shovel as a "let me pull this one out of the barn". Anyway.......
Shovels Rule!!!!!!
I went through some hard times and never sold the bike. Times are better for me now. I want to get this one running and get another rider....
Thanks....drr
I had two 79 Lowriders. I bought one in January of 79 that was a 1200. About a year later I bought one from a buddy who got tired of it. It was a 79 1/2 80 inch model. The late 79 had some changes besides the 80 inch motor. It had the kelsey hayes rear brake master cylinder rather than the Wagner and has a 9 spoke rear mag instead of the 16 spoke. The funny thing about the two was the 1200 was the quicker. The 1200 was a pretty bike it was black with red pin stripes, I was told at the time they only made 500 in that color. The late 79 was silver grey with black panels.
I had a '78 and the carb blew off on me at a stop light, had to pinch my legs together on the air cleaner to get home. It did have the potato, potato idle though. 74" slower than snot.
