Default 1966 FL-Ape Hanger Install

I have a 66 FL. I want to put 16" apes on it. My current bars are split. To install do I cut my new bars in the center? They do have Knurls about 3"s apart. The bar clamp will not be able to be spread large enough for the new bars to be threaded through the openings.

Do not cut the bars, with the apes you will have too much leverage on them and they will not stay in place, especially without knurling. Buy a set of 74 and later FX risers. These were made for one piece bars and will fit your top bracket.

FilthyLucre, Thanks for the advise. Will the FX risers fit under the original
bar clamp chrome cover?

The stock FX ones will not. I've seen some modified after market sets that would. The problem is they are a little higher than the stock FL riser.
