Default bigger front tire

I have a 80 wide glide. I am not a big fan of the skinny front wheel/tire. I want to run something bigger on the front. Would kind of like to run the same size on the front thats on the back. Can I buy a rear spoke wheel/tire from another FX and fit it to the front of my bike?

Yes you can however there will be some issues with the spacers and the front brake. In fact the front brake set-up may be more of a hassel then what it is worth.
Check for the right 16 inch wheel that will require a minimal amount of work such as one from a dual disc set-up if that is what you already have on the lower legs.

You can do it with a few changes. I mounted a 73 and later rear hub to the front of a 80 wide glide. You have to get different discs, the holes in the rear hub are larger than on the FXWG front. I used the discs off a 1980 FLT. The fit tight to the center of the hub, the FXWG discs has a larger center hole. You will have to locate a set of 3/8 countersunk allen screws to bolt it together (Don't use cheap hardware bolts). You will also need the thin disc spacers to center the disc in the caliper.

did that 80 FLT have dual discs? Do you happen to have any pictures of the setup? And where did the disc spacers come from? sorry about all the questions thanks

Yes the 1980 FLT had dual 10 inch discs. The spacer is part number 41814-76, you may already have them behind your discs. Here is a picture of the rear hub mounted on the front. You can see the spacers behind the disc. I turned down the axle to give me clearance to run a front wheel speedo. If you are running a transmission drive speedo, the spacers you have will work with the rear hub. The discs are beat up because I took this after I got run over by a truck.

Thanks for the picture, Let me see if I got all this straight.
I would need.....

A rear wheel from an fx.....73-84 correct?
The disc setup from an 80FLT.....is that the only year I can use? My wide glides dual disc setup is different from the 80FLT right just making sure?

I am going to keep the trans speedo setup so I do not need to turn down the axle. And that should also mean that I don't need a spacers......I checked my wide glide front and there was no spacers.

You can use the rear wheel from a FX or FLH. The FLT calipers were different but the discs were 10 inch. There may be other 10 inch discs that work. I did mine 30 years ago and I remember having a problem with clearance so I had to use a disc that had countersunk holes rather than the regular bolts used on the rear disc. Your wide glide discs have, I believe, 5/16 holes and if you try to use those they will wobble in the larger holes in the rear hub. You could try to enlarge them and see if they would work.

I used a 16" front from a pre-2000 fatboy, the discs bolted right up. Had to manufacture a couple spacers to get the spacing right, but it worked well with the stock rotors and calipers.
