Yes I completely re-wired the bike. The electrical is solid. I'm guessing the guy he bought it from rigged everything to work and sold it to the now owner with the belief that everything was stock, back when Harley's were going for a great price. My friend just had no clue when he bought it. Now I just have to figure out whats going on with the no start. Hope to update later today. Got it into my garage so now i have to work on it....

I'm sorry I asked about SS reg in a mech shell Good Lord what was the guy thinking ? I never liked the advance wts (Distributor ) I'd opt for an old style single pt distrib or a new electronic style distrib The advance wts are hanging Not good The adv wts were good when they vertical (after 1970 + ) Looks like a good project Make sure you have enough beer !

The joy of owning an old bike. My 68FLH was a similar mess when I bought it. Lamp cord wiring, etc. As far as ajdusting the valves. With hydraulics it's supposed to be set them once and forget them. My 68 had a couple of bad hydraulic units that would leak down when the motor got hot. When I replaced them the problem went away. Get the service manual and parts manuel if you don't already have them. Make sure you clean or replace the tappet screen. A clogged screen will give you headacres with your lifters.

the voltage regulater is a good idea in theory, the only thing is it needs air over it to cool it, it would heat up and burn out if it is enclosed.. the stock reg works fine if it is hooked up rite. i think they look horrable my self.. use a newer style chrome one..
