I know there is a difference in the starter shafts for the 66 - 69's compared to the later years, and I just ripped mine down, now wondering if I might have the wrong SHAFT in there? If my memory serves me right.. the shaft length is the same end to end, but where the worm gears are are a little different. Anyone know some measurements or specs so I can check mine?
dan
yea, there are those 2 part numbers, and I cannot recall WHY but at one point I had BOTH shafts in my hand and noticed the difference. i have had the scoot for some 25 years, and had my share of problems with it amongst taking it back from another wrench in pieces once! I was looking at it yesterday, and now am questioning that? I was gonna put an all ***** starter on there and noticed the travel may be inadequate at the gear..
and.. that damn starter that states it replaces the oem prestolite, does not seem to bolt up easily!!
glad I can at least be ridin my springer to work!!
