Default differences in primary covers

I need some information. I have a 1967 FLH. 4 speed trans. Chain drive. The original primary cover is on the bike. I would like to change the primary cover because the original does not have a removable derby cover... It is all one piece with the cover. It only has the removable inspection cover. This means when i have to adjust the clutch I have to drop the primary cover.
With that said I would like switch out the old primary with a cover that has a removable derby cover.
The question then is what is the differences between a 1967 primary cover and a 1970 primary cover. Are the two intercangable? I have checked parts catalogs and the gaskets are the same. If anyone could help I would appreaciate it very much.

You should be good to go up until 1982 when the changed from 8 to 9 hole set up. Think it was at that time they also intorduced rear belt drive which changed the set up on the starter shaft needle bearing on the cover as well. I ran one on my 65 when it was my daily rider for the very reason you mention. Never had a problem.

I would recommend looking for an OEM one. Lot of junk aftermarket stuff that simply doeas not fit well or seal worth a damn.

thanks for the quick reply. that is what i thought. Just bought one off ebay that was off a 1970.
When I bought the bike it had a cheap reproduction cover. It cracked while I was servising the bike. Ihad the original that came with the bike and put it on. But I have to adjust the clutch once or twice a year and it is getting old having to drop the cover everytime. because that includes loosening up the rear exhaut on the crossover pipe and on and on. the derby cover just seems so much easier.

So one more big thank you
