Hey guys.. I looked at a bike the other day and the guy told me that it was an '84 and the motor was a 93" s&s stroker... I believe that it is a wide glide as it has the bobbed rear fender.... I am kinda of hesitant about buying it though because I know if the motor was done poorly that it will just blow up on me. Now the guy tells me that his two brother both work at a Harley dealer ship and they are the ones that did the motor. he is the original owner of the bike.. everything else is pretty much stock.. didn't ask how many miles but he said about 500 on the new build.. a little oil leak from the primary (do big deal).... he is asking $4500. at this price I reckon its a steal. ANY feed back would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to buy something that is a paper weight in 2-3 months... KEPP IT ON TWO WHEELS (unless it has nuts to stand on one)..
Is the motor an S&S motor or the original motor that has S&S flywheels and jugs? Receipts would help your peace of mind.
I know the receipts would be the end all...and I haven't asked yet if he has them..... but Im almost certain it is stock cases, s&s jugs (jugs look brand new, barely any dirt on them) .... I ride a 97 fxstc evo... and I know this thing should viberate way more than the evo, but it feels like a foot massager (don't mind at all) just don't want to miss any signs of something off.
why don't you post pictures here and at shovehead.us, lots more knowledge than I have. Joe
I didn't take any pictures... And I tried posting my question at that site but the site will not allow me to post anything for some reason. I sent the ministrator an email asking why that is and haven't received anything yet.when it is a 93 inch strokeris there anything else that you need to do instead of just buying the kit. my fear is he just buy the kitand his brothers just slept together and did it improperly.other than that I'm ready to buy the bike
IDK never did a stroker, hope someone else sees this and can help you. Can you use the search feature here or at the other site? I know this has been covered before. Joe
Couple questions , is it the big bore 3-5/8" 93" or just a set of long stroke flywheels ? Makes a huge difference , if it's the S&S big bore you should see S&S on the cylinder bases . If not I'd be asking lots of question , a long stroke bike is short lived and a tend to break things and somebody may be throwing out S&S as bait while the guts are something else .
I would pin him down on getting you a COMPLETE list of everything done to the motor and an exact parts list with receipts. Then I'd ask to talk to the brothers.
It's only a good deal if everything was done right.
OK i was not going to get involved because of many things BUT this is what you need to do
pull the sparkplugs - put the rear wheel up in the air - place the trans in high gear - than take the timing plug out - get a small light so you can see the flywheels -
turn the rear wheel slowly and watch for a series of numbers and letters like ( S1234-3SLX ) now what does that desifer too
The S ( year flywheels are made ) 1234 ( flywheel serial number ) - 3 ( stroke of the flywheel ) S engine style LX flywheel diameter
now get those numbers if its an S&S flywheel i can tell you all you need to know -- jz
