Hello from Florida. Hope I wont be one of those guys asking dumb questions, but if I do, I apologize in advance. I bought my first Harley about 3 months ago from a tow impound yard. Bike is a mixed breed but what I think I know is the frame is aftermarket, (maybe Paughco) motor is 83 shovel, has FLT/FXR style 5 speed, and looks like an Electra-glide.
Frame is rubber mount but someone converted the front motor mount to solid, the swing arm is home made and the backbone got cut with a solid 1x1 square rod welded inside back to the seat pan area. Its a mess.
So the frame is of being redone and converted to rigid, and my motor parts are trickling in from the machine shop and Truett and Osborn rebuilt the rods and wheels and balanced them.
My first question of many to come is
1. Where do I buy parts to rebuild the lifters. I assume the wheel and plunger can be bought individually?

if you suspect the lifters not only need plunger work but new rollers than just replace them as a complete unit the cost of what you are doing would cost more than new ones -- as far as having a rubber rear with a 5 speed and a solid mount front, i would think the cases could be cracked / but maybe i read it or did not understand what you said - johnjzjz

I'd buy them complete. If you plan on replacing the complete tappets, I'd get .005 over tappets. Have the tappet blocks honed out to have the new tappets fitted. After the tappet is fitted to each tappet block, do not mix up the tappets, keep them in the block they were honed for.
I thought it may be cheaper to rebuild than for new, but since I dont see them advertised anywhere, I was not sure.... .005 over makes since, and I think my machinist can do that for me.
I suspected cracked case my self but its not. The trans had a bracket on the r-side and the top mount was solid so I think it was just luck....

If not rebuilt properly, one of the legs could crack and brake away, causing the small needle bearing to go on a field trip in your right gear case. Even tho them needle bearings are small, they can really trash every thing in the right gear case, including the cam and oil pump.
The pic below is not for the faint of heart.
