I am in the process of rebuilding an old '76 Shovelhead. My first time too. I got a rattling coming from the front Caliper. I think I either got a warped front rotor or something else. Any other ideas to look for?
No. I believe it's original. I got the bike out of a shed in November 2012, as a basket case. Been trying to bring it back to life since. Never had one before. I'm an Auto Mechanic by trade.
I know there's an "anti rattle spring" kit....mine needs one, my banana caliper drives me nuts over bumps. A buddy put an anti rattle spring kit on his, guess H-D started putting them on the brakes a year or so after mine. Buddies spring looks sorta like this one... http://www.jpcycles.com/product/240-264
(above link prolly not correct model for yours...just showin' )
I went thru similar recently, freaking annoying rattle. My right side rotor was warped, easily seen when rotor was placed on a flat piece of glass. In my case, because I had too, I pounded the rotor flat with a rubber mallet. Pretty flat anyways. Replaced the rotor later on.
My rattle clip was in wrong too, I thought I had seated it correctly previously.
My rattle is now gone, wheel spins better too.
