Default Unlimited budget with common sense purchasing

I am looking to put in a system on my 2011 UC limited. Just dropped a bunch into rebuilding the engine and fixing all the worn out parts and powder coating the majority of the chrome to black and now am looking forward to the next step which is a sound system upgrade. I went to a show last year and there were a few vendors selling their systems. One was all Focal and Arc audio and was VERY expensive. Best sounding though but expensive. I also heard another put in Hertz and JL components. Not as expensive and sounded good.
Later I found the focal guy on line and asked him about the other products out there for less prices. He told me (as I expected him too) that the other systems do not hold the sound good and their tweeters were junk and could not compare with Focal. His top of the line 2 speaker set up was 2k+.

My question is, are the other products that are less expensive, junk, or is it all in how it is set up? I listen to everything from J Cash to Rush to Slayer and throw in some Beastie boys too. If I want that quality of sound, is that guys solution the only way to go?

Read though some of the existing threads about various installations and listen to the systems in the VID Thread Sticky.

You need to decide if you want a competition-quality system, one that sounds good when cruising or one that will do the job when running at highway speeds. In other words, the best sounding system in the parking lot may not be the best sounding system running 75 mph.

Yeah I know a bit about audio and wave lengths but also know that it all goes to hell at 75+!

Focal are great speakers however I would not call JL or Hertz junk by any stretch of the word. Like Ranger said it all depends on what you want.

I've got a bike in my shop right now that I've got close to $4500.00 in nothing but focal speakers in it.
Does it sound good, hell yes, very fine speakers. Worth the price, well like BAB said, it depends on what your wanting.
Hard to beat the DD's right now for the price. JL and hertz are phenomenal speakers as well. When you step into this price range your not going to find a bad speaker. It's just what sounds good to YOU as they all have their strong/weak points.

yeah, there is a guy around my town that has 12 Focal speakers in his bike with all the power to run it and it sounds fantastic, BUT the bike is for show! I am a Harley RIDER not just a Harley owner. I need every inch of space in my bags but, between the upper and lower fairings and the tour pak pods. I think I can put something together that will satisfy my needs (for the time being!) I was impressed with the sounds of the DD AW6.5s and the matching tweeters but have also looked at their BT30 tweeters and heard they are not as full band as the AW28s but, good for when you are rolling down the road. Looking at AW6.5 in the upper and CC6.5 in the lowers and pods. Does DD make an Amp that fits in an 11 ultra? or would it be best to go with the Arc 600.4?

Where are you mounting the crossovers and are you running any line levels?

I'm using a Sony head unit so no need for LL, the crossovers are in the box with the speakers arriving Wednesday so I'm not certain of their size yet but I'm thinking I'll attempt to mount them on the horizontal braces that run across to the speakers.
