Default My experience with Long Ride Shields

First off, let me say I'm not angry or posting this to bash LRS. I'm just posting my experience with using LRS windshields.

I bought two LRS shields I think back in 2015. One for my bike and one with flame etching for my wife's bike. A month or two after having them on our bikes, we started seeing what I will call stress fractures at the base of the shields near the mounting holes. A couple months later I contacted LRS about my shield as it was the worst of the two. I sent them pictures to show what I was talking about.

Their response was excellent and they replaced the windshield no questions asked. The customer service was top notch and I have no complaints about LRS customer service.

Not long after installing the replacement shield, the fractures started to form again. I'm sure I could have contacted them and they would have made it right. However, I've decided to switch to a different manufacturer as I don't want to just keep replacing shields that continue to fracture. I made this decision last year but I've delayed in buying a new shield until now as I wanted to get some more usage out of the shield. I finally decided they are getting too bad and I've bought a replacement.

I'm posting this so others that are looking at windshields can see my experience and because I'm curious if anyone else has had this same problem with LRS shields.

The first three pictures are of my shield and the last two are of my wife's.

Mine still looks the same as the day I installed it. That was about 18 months ago.
I've had it in and out several times, the last wss 3 weeks ago.
Are you sure you're not overtightening the mounting screws? They don't take as much as a lot of people think.

That is possible. I have about a half dozen of their shields and one that is on a Memphis Shades fairing has a bit of webbing. Still using a couple others, standard flip Road King shield as well as one for a Road Glide and those are fine. Perhaps LRS could shed some light?

Looks like overtightening to me......but I surely can't place that blame on you because I don't know. Here is what I do know.....I have 3 LRS that I use regularly. I swap them out all of the time and they all look new. In fact, they don't really even have the mounting wear mark like my KW. When I take them off, not one mark from the fairing. I'll admit that I'm **** about not over tightening because I think we could ruin anything by doing that. I sold 3 LRS shields that came off of my SG when I sold it. Those shields didn't have one blemish...seriously, not one. Looking at the horizontal lines you have across it ----to me, it seriously looks like overtightening----thats alot of "mark" to have where the fairing meets the windshield.

Good luck

Never an issue with my LRS.
I would make sure there is something between metal and glass and be careful about over tightening.

I have two LRS which I swap out for winter and summer. They still look like new after almost two years. Looks to me like possibly over-tight mounting screws are to blame here.

Something more to this story. Looks like they were not slid all the way down to where holes in shield are completely seated within mount point area and are flexing with vibration. Ive had LRS units for years, even trimmed one a couple times in this area, never a crack.

I have 2 LRS, no problems.

It does look like they were over tightened.

How tight do you clench them down? Are you using the cheaper or more expensive version - different materials? I have one installed for 3 years now and not an issue. Sorry for you bad experience but this does seem strange.

The cracks coming out from the mount holes is clearly over tightening.
