flibuoy,

you must have readmy mind....i ordered mine today as well, bought them through phat performance and got free shipping and a free t shirt.....got to give it up for XXXracing for hooking me up with that store!!!!!!

ORIGINAL: flibuoy

I pulled out the wallet this morning, Washington squinted because he hadn't seen the sun in so long, and ordered the 422s. Mine was lowered 1 1/2" with the bolts. The ride was just too firm and too close to getting slammedout of travel for me. I now regret, via 20/20 hindsight, not going straight to shocks or air. You may have noticed my posts over the last month about pothole encounter fracturing 2 vertebrae. Bolts were less $ for sure but if you hire labor out then gap closes significantly. Be assured I will post results of same day/load/road comparison. Still plan to keep it lowered 1 1/4-1 1/2" because of looks and my wee legs. Already have front down 1 1/2 with progressive springs. That was low parts $ and high labor $ since I had indy shop do it. Current users of 413/422 do you have results of tweaking preload settings you may have tried. I Usually ride alone at 195# , 5% or less 2 up, wife has her own Harley. I Like a soft ride...don't we all.....but sure want to avoid that sudden stoppage due to hitting the rubber stops hard. Should be installed/sorted out by early next week I will share my OPINIONS. John
Sweet fellas. I'll be looking forward the verdict on the 422s. I e-mailed phatperformanceparts.com about another product. Those guys had e-mailed me back in 10 minutes. That's pretty darn good if you ask me. I'll use them for sure.

flibuoy.....Ive read the posts about your back, that really sucks, nothing is more uncomfortable than haveing any type of back problem.

I also was going to do the bolts and leave the stock shocks but, i just didnt feel comfortable with it. 385.00 is short money for a comfortable ride and making the bike look good.

I wont have my shocks until 4/18, they will be installed shortly after they arrive!!!

Good luck with your back.

BD

Anyone know the number of turns available for preload adjustment? About to install mine after lunch at indy and wanted soft ride with no bottoming under reasonable conditions. First try will be one turn from least preload without any input from you brainiacs. Thoughts? I will post me observations about the ride homebefore I call it a night, so stay tuned for MHO. Hopefully I can remember to score the wrench that is supplied with kit from the mechanic before I leave. I will experiment from first setting as time goes on if I feel it is nor right. Hard to imagine those little buggers costing as much as 4 big ol premium car shocks! Therefore, the tightwad in me will strive for best possible compromise setting...soft enough BUT no bottoming...that these can offer. John

I also just pulled out my walet to the 422's from Phat. A couple of months back I installed the extension bolts to lower my deuce. I like the fit in the seat but the ride feels like you have no suspension. I am looking forward to the 422's based on the reviews.

Thanks to all

I was standing out front of the indy shop when it opened (Osborne's in Houston). Bike went up on table, measurementstaken to reset height 1/4"-1/2" higher than previous lowered height of 1 1/2-1 3/4", then up on lift and the deed was done in about 30 minutes. The 422s are really a quality looking piece. Of course they are available only in chrome I guess....so when you run over frogs etc they will be really impressed with details. Shocks were left at the delivered softest setting for test ride, and as it turned out, for ride home too. The following is my promised comments...read them as opinionated, subjectiveand basically worthless:
1. bike "settled" a bit less when sat on
2. ride was very smooth...firm but smooth and much more linear
3. tire felt as though it was in better contact over rougher spots, line of travel andstable feel less affected by rough road
4. did not bottom at all on ride home ...35 miles...but felt light bottoming a number of times on ride in to indy shop.
5. more experience with them will help better evaluate naturally...but at this point I can guess that time will just serve to endear them more.
6. when I came back to shop after first test ride of a mile or so, the owner of shop and the one who did install asked if bike rode better...I said yes...he asked if it rode $500 better and I said of course not...I called him back from home 35 miles later and said yeah it rides $500 better.
7. going to be tough to find someone with a small enough head to get fit it under bike to see the chrome

John
