Default Cut my windshield...Not so good...

Well I thought how had could it be.. My brother came over and we taped it up and marked it off.. We then proceeded to cut the windshield and all was good untill it started shaking so we hung it off the end of a bench and continued... After I finish the cut I notice the windshield had slide off the edge of the bench and was resting on the backside of the shield. I pulled the tape off and cleaned it up with water and could clearly see where it had scratched the whield in two places... I then decided to go ahead and finish the job (note above where I said I already removed the tape)... As I'm finishing the sanding by hand to smooth the beveled edge my hand slips a little and I sand the front of the shield about 3/4" from the top... Didn't go well to say the least, now I'm looking at ways to fix this. Does anyone know if the Novus scratch remove work and to what degree? If I was to order a replacement low profile they only come in light tint, how light is light? Also how tall is the olw profile shiels from center or the headlight? Thanks for the help!!!

The novus wont help much. I bought all 3 levels and it will take off light surface scratches but nothing deep through the coating.

Don't buy a HD replacement, you can get from other places like Rifle and National Cycle, Cee Baileys that are the same fit, but exactly the height you want tint or lack thereof as well as being nearly 2x as thick.

That's a bummer man! Sorry to hear it didn't go so well.

You might be able to get another shield on Ebay pretty cheep.

Good luck on where to go from here. [sm=smiley20.gif]

I don't mean to discorage anyone from doing thier own. I just want to prevent someone from making the same mistakes. The cut came out great it was just the slip off the bench that started a chain reaction. lol... Had it not sliped off then I would have left the tape on for the sanding process and a slight slip would have only been on the tape..[:@]I looked at the Menphis shades 17" but I'll check out the others.

I've had two cut (both by people used to dealing with plastics.) 1st one went real well, the mistake I made was cutting 4 1/2" off the top (so's to speak). That was too low. Made it like riding in a convertible at 100 miles an hour and sticking my head up over the windshield header. 2nd one was good height (for my low "young guns" seat) but the actual coating on the windshield peeled in a couple spots. Like paint delamination(spl chk) It put splotches near the edges, not too noticable, but there. I'm thinking maybe the heat from cutting caused it?
I have a taller Corbin touring seat now, so I'm running the Harley low profile windshield. The height seems good. It's the tinted one, 3" lwr than stock.

Is it so bad that you can't tolerate it. I wrecked some time ago and scratched my pretty bad. Call it a war wound. BTW the HD low profile tint is very light. If I replace I'll go elsewhere.

When I got my FatBoy it came with a 20" windshield (from the top to the top opening above the headlight).

Wanted something a little shorter, so I replaced it with a 2" under Cee Bailey, which is 18". The Cee Bailey is better quality than the HD, and it also comes in clear instead of just the 'light smoked' like the HD compact.

The Cee Bailey fits perfectly, and doesn't 'flex' at speed like the HD. No complaints at all.

So, what did you use to cut it, a circular or jig type saw? I cut mine to fit snug into my apes (they lean forward a bit) with a dremmel type tool. Maybe you can use that to trim up the 1 inch that you messed up and, uh...save some $cratch.

You know that crap they sell to fill in scratches on glasses would work great here. It doesn't look that bad. It would work.
