Tossed old crusty primary - Inspected clutch (all Good - check) - adjusted clutch (check) - adjusted primary chain 1/8" (Check) - installed new primary & Derby cover (check) - filled primary with Royal Purple Max (check) - adjusted shifter pawl 1/8 turn (check) - replaced shifter shaft bearings/bushings (check) - put everything back together.
Shift up and down, smoothly and neutral is easier than before.
Not sure which step did the most (I'll say pawl, then primary) but she's good to go now.
Tomorrow Trans fluid to Royal Purple - a slightly softer clunk would be nice.
Thanks everyone for your input.
First real chance at roadtest (had to redo brake system) it was smooth or smoother than most showroom bikes. Upshift and downshift perfect, neutral as easy as my Ultra.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out.

I have a couple of questions for ya. When you're inspecting the clutch what exactly are you looking for?

Where is the shifter pawl ?

I am having the same issue and I'm pretty sure its the arm and the pawl needing adjusted.

Sorry took so long - Inspecting clutch make sure disc don't show undo wear, still have fiber area, all plates are flat, in correct order.
Shift pawl is top of trans - adjustment is just behind the rear shift shaft arm.
