Default Quick SERT Question

I'm getting some pipes for the07 NT and was thinking about getting the SERT from HD. Can the SERT be tuned with a laptop or do I need a dyno tune? Money is a factor right now but eventually I'll get the dyno tune with what ever programmer I get. One more thing. Can the SERT be tuned for non-hd parts? Thanks

You don't tune a SERT like you do a add on piece like the PCIII.
The SERT lets you use a laptop or any other computer to tune the ECM that's already in your bike.

While adyno tune is far more likely to do a better job (depending on the"programmers" skills with the particulartuner), YES you can use the SERT with a laptop computer to tune your bike and also make adjustments to accomodate nonH-D parts (V&H Dresser Duals).

In my region,a PCIII is clearly the dyno tuner's choice but my bike (2001 Roadking Classic) came with a SERT. Before turning it over to a tech with less SERT experience, I decidedit was worthgivingthe laptopa try.A canned SERT program was entered and adjustments were made to eliminate detonation. The result is a better performing bike (cleaner plugs, and an increase in gasmileage from 26 to 42 MPG) but I believe that SERTexperienced dyno tuner would still do better.

I suggest that you see what the the dynotuner's in your area preferbefore you buy a SERT.

SERT or PCIII are both good. As Rock4gzus stated, check with your local Dyno shop if you think you will need to have it tuned. This might help explain why many tuners perfer the PCIII.

Yes you can tune your SERT with a canned map that comes with the software. This will be "OK". When I got my SERT dyno tuned the tuner said that even the canned map that I loaded was on the lean side. So you can get by with flashing the ECU with a canned map untill you have the funds to have it dyno tuned which will be much better.

Dyno tunes prefer PC3s because they are more simple to tune and you don't run the risk of frying the ECU.

Since you have an 07, I would say the SERT is the better choice over a PC3.
