Posted this in the "Wheel" section of the forum, but not getting any feedback. Figured I would be better off here with guys running the same bike anyway.
I'm looking at a set of Ultima wheels under recommendation from a few people here on the forum.
I have some questions regarding the fitment on my 2002 FXST which has 3/4 axles in both the front and the rear.
I want to run a 21x3.5 rim up front. Do I use the (L) & (R) spacers that are on the stock wheel? I realize I may have to get a new front fender, which is fine. Is a 120/70-21 the suggested tire here from anyone's experience?
Secondly, in the rear I am looking at a 18x3.5. Ultima doesn't make a 18x4.25. The largest tire I can fit on my year frame (Narrow rear fender and frame horns) is a 160/60-18 anyway and that should be the rims limit anyway. Would I use the stock spacers on the rear as well and should I expect any pulley line up issues?
I just installed a Ultima rear wheel on my 2006 Softail Deluxe, it bolted right up using the stock spacers. The stock pulley lined up perfectly also. I did have to tap the pulley and brake rotor holes because the bolts ran out before the rotor and pulley were tight. The holes are drilled deep enough but they didn't go deep enough with the threads. Not sure if you will have to do this but something to consider. I used a 7/16 and a 3/8 bottom tap.
The 160 is really to wide for a 3.5 rim. I am sure it could be mounted on that size rim but a 150 is the widest that is recommended for a 3.5 wide rim.
steen...i have a 21 inch dna wheel on the front of my softail deluxe. getitng a 'horn' noise and a little vibration when i pull in front brake. put bike up in the air and spun my wheel went around once then stopped...seems bound or too tight? my new wheel hub is 70 thousandths larger than my stock hub. i measured my existing spacers, made 2 new ones identical. milled 35 thousandths off of each spacer(half of 70) to accommodate for the larger hub. still running into same problem. any help would be greatly appreciated. been seeing alot of people running into these problems with aftermarket wheels
