Default Shock bolts?

How do you replace your shock bolts with out a press or taking them to a shop. I was hoping to do this myself at home? Ideas?

Have you already purchased the bolts? If not, I would suggest
the softail lowering kit that uses split-collars. No shock removal
is necessary. It's an easy DIY job, took me maybe 45minutes...
Here's a link to the softail lowering kit.

If you already have the bolts, yes I think you have to totally remove
the shocks and take them to someone with a press.

good luck,

T.

Do a search, but use google instead of the crappy search engine on here. I took mine to a shop, but there are plenty of ways to redneck engineer a makeshift press, using bottle jacks, car jacks, bench vises etc. just need enough pressure to compress slightly to be able to remove the split retention ring. Not the safest way to do it, but it can be done.

my kit just came in Saturday and was hoping to due it myself as well. I watched this video he is talking about and it looked pretty easy. It seems like a lot ppl have pulled it off themselves.

I just put lowering bolts in my shocks.. have a press at work so I used that. That's the safest way to do it tbh. Can always look up other ways on YT or google.
