Love wearing a 3/4 helmet. I have one of the new custom painted Harley 3/4 helmets (Bell Custom 500 made for Harley) and I don't think I will ever go back to a half helmet. Definitely cuts down on wind noise and no helmet lift on the highways at high speed. I will say definitely try a few on before buying. The 3/4 helmets sometimes make your head look to big. Get one that feels good and looks good.
How good are 3/4 helmets at reducing wind noise? I currently have a 1/2 helmet. I've recently developed tinnitus and don't want to go to a full face if I don't have too. I will wear ear plugs if that happens but was curious about 3/4 first.
Hi bigblock59,
They are horrible.
The average Full Face Helmet drops the dB by 3. Not much. So I suspect a 3/4 does something less. Not significant in either case.
NRR rating of 33 which is the BEST you can get. Or I ever found.
2) Learn how to put them in correctly. It is rare I ever see anyone wearing them correctly so they are not getting the full benefit. Be it bikers, people on gun ranges, etc.... it is very rare I ever see anyone using them correctly.
Obviously, a 3/4's gonna be better than leaving your ears flappin out in the wind. Add to that ear plugs and you're golden.
I recommend the Bell Custom 500 with tree snap flip up shield
I have a fulmer 3/4.. It feels great.. Not much wind noise either.. I'm gonna get a face shield for it for the really cold days when I don't want to deal with wind too much on my face

I wore a 1/2 for many years and when I went to a 3/4, there was a world of difference, at least to me there was. The effect of the wind entering my ears is almost nothing now. My helmet also has a visor that goes down almost to my chin and since I already have dry eyes, it kept the crap off the road and the wind from bothering my eyes and causing more issues than I already have.
