Default switch board tragedy Softail Slim

I need help...

I have a 2012 Softail Slim.
I was attempting to replace the switch covers on the right side, had everything apart and ready to go THEN...
While putting the new switch cover on the right turn signal it just breaks the housing for the right turn signal in half...in this motion the two metal pins for the run/stop switch go flying across the shed...I only found one.

Since I have never had this portion of the bike torn apart I am wondering some things...

1. Can I buy the two little pins in the run/stop switch
(if I can do that then I could probably jerry rig something to keep the right turn signal in place)

2. Does the switch board (located inside the switch housing), come disconnected from the wires coming through the handlebars?
(if not that means I will have to pull the wires from the handlebars if my only choice is to replace the insides of the switch housing ie the part where all the switches are)

3. Has this happened to anyone else? and if so how much did it cost for the new switch board? aprox.

I am sooooo angry at myself and Harley for making something that can break so easy, I was barely applying any pressure.
Looks like my bike is down for a month till I can afford the part at the very least.

I have never had one apart and so I can't help you, but if the dealer can't get the part for you, you might consider buying a complete "take off" if you can find one in the classified here or on ebay...
I say this because I have seen many custom bikes with chrome and different switches mounted.

All I have to say is guys who are planning on replacing your switch covers...

IT AINT WORTH IT!!!

Just got off the phone with harley, the new switch unit to replace the "all in one" unit that I fractured is 300.00 after tax and thats with me installing it!

Thats not to address that the wires on the right hand side will also have to be pulled through the handlebars and we all know that will likely never go back through there again when I get the new part,
AND the tank has to be at the least pulled up if not off the bike to plug the new unit into the wiring harness.

Add in the gas im out, the time my bike is down, and the hell im about to have to go through tearing everything apart and it adds up to a very very unpleasant experience.

And tomorrow the temp is going to be 77 degrees....ugh!

Your bike is that new canbus system right? If it is then That thing is a pain in the *** to deal with. From what I understand You can't just replace one part/switch. You have to get the entire thing replaced.

If that's the case it's an easy job man. The shittiest part is running the wires though your bars.

Don't get too annoyed at yourself dude, **** happens. I know how frustrating it can be to miss out on a good day of ridding.

Quick story: last year I was adding some oil to my sled right before my wife and I were supposed to go on a cruise. I ended up putting too much oil in my tank and while trying to get some of it out I dropped the syringe I was using to get the oil out inside the oil tank lolol. Mad at myself doesn't even begin to describe how I felt.

The next day I ended up having to take off the oil tank and fishing that stupid thing out lolol. It was a learning experience for sure. And now when I look back at it I laugh every time I tell the story.

It has been many years since I ran wire through bars.
I removed the plugs. I lubed the wire. Then attached a length of string to the wire.
Hooked up a shop vac, and taped off the holes in the handle bar that would cause a leak. The string was easily drawn through the correct area of the handlebar, and the string then pulled the wires through. re connect plugs. You may be able to access plugs at the tank by lifting rather then removing.
Hope this makes sense. Good luck.
Steve

JETFEVER!! My Man!! Thats exactly what I need thanks so much for the link, you just saved me a huge amount of cash!! :-)

I just remembered that I have the LED turn signal headlight ring from Roalnd Sands so I will have to figure out how to rewire that side in but hey that shouldnt be that big of a deal....I didnt actually install that part myself as I was getting other work on the front end done at the dealer and just had them install it while that section was apart.

I dont think I will be able to get the wiring through the bars though and although it will look like crap I am ok with it.....rather than possibly screwing something else up.

This all switches in one box crap is for the birds.
I almost had a heart attack when they told me how much it was going to cost.
Now I just need to go donate a gallon of blood before the ebay guy sells the ones he has..lol

Thanks guys for the suggestions and help, I really appreciate it

Alain that is correct it is the canbus, thats why its so damn expensive there are no individual switches its a block with all the switches in the right side and a block with all the switches on the left side.

So if you get a part to crack and one of the switch cover nipples comes off (like I did) you have to replace the whole block of switches (276.00 + tax)
and you put them on yourself.

I just hope they didnt jerry rig the turn signal trim ring too bad.
