Does anybody use these tires. They are same as the stock but without the Harley name. Found a good deal on them. Are these good tires? I know that many Metzler is also good.
So they grip better but don't last as long? My dilemna is that I still have the stock tires and they have a ton of tread on them but I have almost 7 K miles on them. So do I change them when I put on my new wheels or do I keep them?
I'd remount them if they have a ton of tread. The front will last way more than 7k miles. The original front on my Road King lasted 39k. The second one now has 25k and still looks great.
I have a 1200 Custom wheel that I bought to put on my Road King. Just yesterday, I took the D404 off of it. It was very flimsy compared to a 402. I usually have to wrestle a bit with a 402. The 404 popped right off. BTW, my current rear tire has 9k on it. It still looks pretty good. I'm gonna put it on my new wheel and milk the last 2-3k out of it.
Just did some tire research the last few days for my sporty and the 404 is definitely not the same tire. Price difference was about fifty bucks and the main difference I found was the load capacity due to the different sidewall structure. I'm almost always 2up and I went with the OEM tires although Avon Venoms were the same price and "stickier" meaning better handling on wet pavement and cornering.......but would have probably had to run a few extra pounds in them to compensate for the weight.
I have a new 404 that I bought as a replacement for the rear tire on my Fatboy. Not the same tire, but pretty darn close. The load ratings for the 150/80 that I bought were exactly the same as the 402 (according to the Dunlop website). There is, I think, 1/32 inch less tread on them though. The thing is, I'm now trading the bike and still have the brand new tire hanging here, guess I'll eBay it!
