Hi, I've read lots of comments on the RevTech-transmissions, but does anyone have any experience with the Ultima 6-speeds? I know a few builders use them with the Ultima-engines.
I know Baker is king, but here in Norway with installation the cost will be approx. $5500 at the stealer, but from another shop I can get an Ultima installed for $2500 or a RevTech for $3200...
Thanks!
I'm about a week away from putting one in my 92 Heritage .... I'll let you know first impressions,
but I have heard good things. My original trans will not be sold for awhile! I'm hoping it's not a
600.00 lesson.
Thanks and good luck, I assume it is a good tranny, but then again, everbody has opinions. The dealer where I live (Norways largest) says they've never had any problems with RevTech the last years, but that the quality was a bit shoddy before. Never heard anything bad about Ultima and they match them with powerful engines, so it SHOULD be good stuff...
I put the Ultima in this past weekend, and 1st impressions are "Nice"!! Shifts smooth and 6th gear
is pretty cool. I haven't been able to really get on a road where I can go 70ish for any distance, but at 60, I go to 6th, and it really lowers the rpm's. At 60, it's almost too slow, but you know, you have to experiment. I know it would be nice if someone would post, that has had the Ultima for a while .... I'd like to hear too .... but as of right now, I'm a happy guy!
I am debating between the ultima and the baker. Bucks is bucks, Need more input first on the ultima regards longevity., Greg, consider dropping the tranny pulley to 30 and the motor to 24. Will get you out of the hole quick, and you should be able to cruise at 2800 or so at 75 in 6th.
For the few additional $, I think that the RevTech is a much higher quality transmission that the Ultima. I think that Sucker Punch Sally's just switched to RevTech.
I had the ultima in my old softail never had a problem they come with a 2yr 24000 mi warranty. you can get one from Jireh cycle for $599 with free shipping
WE've installed a lot of Ultima's with basically no problems. We have one in our '95 FLHT with a 120" engine, 142 HP 154 Torque. we ride it like we stole it and it still shifts like butter. We put a 31 tooth pulley with it also.

I read the same that Sucker Punch Sally had issues with the Ultima and have gone with RevTech. My bike has a 6spd factory, but if I were building a custom and wanted to go cheaper than Baker 6, I'd probably choose a RevTech as my impression is that they've been around longer with their 6spd and probably have worked out the bugs a bit longer.
