Slim Fuel Mileage Tips.

Slim Fuel Mileage Tips.
So I know I'll figure out my bikes habits after a while, but what are the fuel mileage particulars on your bike??
For example, the fuel indicator comes on with a supposed one gallon left. When the light came on today, the gauge was dead on E; way into the red. The Remainder said 28 miles though; this I found weird?! Shouldn't the mileage be a little higher? What's that based on?
I went to the gas station, the R said 26 miles left, and it took 3.8 gallons to fill it to the bottom of the neck. Clearly I had more than 26 miles left with 1.2 gallon (supposed) in the tank.
Just curious what you guys see.

range-estimate on my Speedo-Tach combo guage and the digital guage
is always higher. I have never gotten down to the low-fuel light since
I always ride with the OL & she has a sportster so has to stop for
fuel alot sooner than I do....

Second tank....ran it down until the low fuel light came on (gauge was way down on E) and my gauge swapped over to the Range screen. I ran it until the Range indicator showed 10 miles left. I went and got gas and took 4.1 gallons to fill to the bottom of the neck. I had close to a whole gallon left...that's a bit more than 10 miles of range left. Still learning my bikes characteristics obviously, but I guess these indications are conservative and just enough to give you some situational awareness.

The H-D analog speedo (p/n 74774-11 - Combination Analog Speedometer/Tachometer, 5" - Spun Aluminum Dial) is far more accurate than the stock gauge.
When the tank gauge said "E", the new analog gauge correctly shows a 1/4 tank.
And after the tune with a Vance & Hines FuelPak3 I'm getting a steady 40MPG in the city, 45MPG highway.

IMHO the guage in the cap is pretty conservative. I compare it to the

On my bike none of the 3 fuel indicators are correct. Last time I logged fuel usage I had gone 197 miles and filled up with 4.6 gallons. This was about 25 miles past both gauges saying E and the DTE warning.
