Default I'm retarded....

2009 HD Deluxe Softail

want to remove rear floorboards...they often hit me in calves when starting from dead stop

looks like it takes an allen wrench...I've got one but it doesn't fit into it deep enough to loosen bolt

got an extension on a socket but can't get the pieces together to loosen bolt

searched on youtube: how to remove rear passenger floorboards softail...and nada

I'm a retard mechanic.....even the simplist task ends up throughing me.....

anyone got a technique..pictures or video?

Attached pics to show the allen bolt....the allen wrench hitting the exhaust keeping me from getting the allen wrench into the bolt to turn it......another pic shows the socket/extension with allen hitting bracket...

I just can't get an allen wrench into the bolt to loosen it....

Does this take a special tool? (I know, I seem like a tool right about now)

All I will say is before you remove those floorboards, lets take a look at your technique how you drive off from a dead stop. I suggest a class at your dealership.

You can use a universal on the end of the socket then extension or use the ball end of Allen and grab it with an opened end wrench

Install the long end of the allen wrench into the bolt, so that the wrench extends past the floor board. Use another wrench on the short end of the allen wrench for leverage.

Every Road Glide (I've had three) and this softail with rear floorboards can occasionally nip the back of your leg, when starting from a deal stop...on an uphill 90 degree turn.

Didn't see any floor boards on your bike so maybe you haven't experienced it.

I've been riding for over 50 years....I know how to ride just fine.

You might consider using a different tool. It looks like to me that it is a Torx. But hey, we all have to be something and maybe retarded isn't so bad.

Pick your feet up and place them on your own boards instead of letting them lag behind...that's the technique being talked about. Don't drag them behind you and you'll stop hitting the passenger boards.

And since you seem to enjoy using the word that describes your mental disability, you may not understand this concept. Take it to the Dealer to have them taken off.

doing something like this might help you out. using the socket and a extension for leverage on the short side of the allen wrench. i think it will work. Just be careful cuz i see the allen head bolt is starting to round out
