Default PM grips eaten up by cable

Took my Performance Machine grips off my Train to change bars and noticed the cables have chewed into the aluminum. Anyone seen this before?

All the grips I have used in the past few years have had plastic/nylon ends on them. Never noticed much wear on them. That seems to a little excessive to me. Are you supposed to have any sort of lube in that area? It might help to reduce the wear.

I have seen it on those same grips and it was caused by the friction screw pad not being on the screw end. I am talking about the little pad plastic thing that sits on top of the friction screw.

Good point. Those little bastards can fall out and you'd never notice it. Happened on my wife's Sportster a few years back when I changed her grips.

Thanks, the little nylon pad is missing. I will get a new one when I put it all back together. I think the grip is still ok to use, if anything the pad might wear a bit to conform to the groove.

Thanks again!

When that pad falls off it's like the throttle end Ferrell's. They just vanish into thin air.

When it happened to mine they were never the same and would bind slightly if the pad touched the rough area again. Ended up eventually replacing the grips.

You could use some sand paper to smooth out the grooves and remove the bits and pieces of the aluminum that are stuck on the grip that interfere with the pad.
