Default Had a blowout today (Fatboy Lo) - Which 200mm rear tire do I replace with?

Have a pretty new 14 Lo whose rear tire gave me the mother of all F-you's at highway speed yesterday.

Tire was the stock Dunlop with only 3552 miles and what appeared to be minimal wear. I'm going to order a replacement but having a hard time nailing down what I want in a replacement.

I wasn't impressed with either the handling or road manners of the stock tire, and the blowout at such low mileage leaves me a little gunshy as well.

I don't mind paying a bit of a premium for a high quality tire. That being said, I'm not a "performance" rider either. I expect I'll log around 10k-12k annually, alot of rural highway and surface street riding, maybe a LITTLE on the high side as far as getting on the throttle.

Seeing a lot of recommendations across the board for specific tires, but I know the wide rears are kinda a different beast. Any specific tire I should look for here? I'd appreciate and first hand rec's!

Thanks!

ETA: Also, is there any merit to the idea of approaching the dealership for a deal on replacement considering the low mileage?

Depends how you ride, down shiftin constantly, burnin tha rubber? All kinds of things to consider, I don't pay much attention to the manufacturers consensus and ads.

My warranty covers tires down to 3/32". I'm on 3rd rear tire because of nails and I only have 7k on the bike. The put on dunlops because that's what I keep wrecking. Commander II seem to be the best liked tire on here.

I'm using Metzler 888 ME. A couple of times at highway speeds going around a shape bend, they don't instill confidence.

My next tires will be Avon Cobra or Pirelli Night Dragon.

I have run both of these on my last bike and liked their handling.

Think I may try the Michelins on the next go around.

These represent the main two I've been leaning towards, the commander IIs and the night dragons.

I'd rather have better handling than higher mileage because tires are cheaper than hospital bills.

First off that is a serious FU
I would go to the dealer first I think that is a warranty item.

I just went with avons myself. So far so good.

Default Tried them all

I have an 07 FXSTC and have tried all the 200 mm they make except the Pirellis, none wore any different than the other IMOP they all handled slightly different, was not impressed with the Mich, nor the Avon. I went back to Dunlope, American Eagle. Just my opinion.
