Unhappy Fixing a scratched windscreen

Hi all,

Yesterday I arrived at my mother-in-laws house on my motorcycle after a 1,300 mile ride over a couple of days.

As I was washing my bike, she insisted on cleaning my windshield (Covered in bugs!). Today when I put it on, I noticed she's now covered it in lots of scratches, and there's a huge square right in the middle where it looks like she's scrubbed off some sort of protective film.

So, my question is - does anyone know of how to fix this, or is it going to be a new windscreen for me?

Had a Google, and hearing both things, but nothing really aimed at what I have.

Thanks

This is why nobody touches my bike and even the dealer is not allowed to wash it.

No I don't believe you can get those swirls and scratches out. Mother-in-law owes you a new windshield.

I use the Novus plastic cleaner and polishes for this reason. Novus 1 to clean it regularly, 2 for crazing and 3 for scratches (then 2 to polish out the crazing caused by 3). Use a buffer if you have one for the 3.

The problem you have is that the HD windshields have a costing on them to protect the lexan from scratching (So much for that) so if she scratched the coating you are SOL. You can try on of the plastic cleaners and polishes but you will probably see the difference in the area you try and buff out.

I bought one (aftermarket without the coating for that reason and when is gets scratched as they all will eventually I can buff them out with no issue.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
I will try and see what I can get here (travelled from the UK to Serbia - and there's not many options here) to polish out the scratches. There's also a lovely big 5cm by 5cm square where she took off all the coating.

Looks like I will have to buy a new one when I get home. I'm also guessing it's best to buy aftermarket ones instead of a HD one next?

I had a detail shop in Mesa AZ and we did a lot of lexan/plexi that was scratched, oxidized etc.. The scratches will wheel out without much fuss.. We used a product call "Liquid Ebony" that worked fantastic... You do need to know how to run a wheel without burning however..

Learned this doing lightbars on patrol units.. They get hazed over like bad headlight covers. When we were done, they looked brand new

Looked perfect! (WOW!) For a while and (With no touching) it looks like crap, worse than it first did.
