Default Security ideas

Since my stolen Lo has come home I want to know some good security ideas. Is the Harley security worth the money? Are there any aftermarket systems better?

It doesn't matter what kind of security system you have. If someone wants your bike bad enough they will get it (especially if they are a professional thief). Do people even pay attention to sounding security alarms anymore? Until a security system is introduced which pumps 40,000 volts through any would-be thief and knocks them unconscious until the cops, to whom the incapacitated & drooling idiot can explain himself, get there; theft insurance is the only way to go where theft is likely...

I have the HD alarm on my rocker c, but that is not going to do much on its own...
When I travel, I have a six foot plastic covered security cable and a good lock to secure the bike to something such as a pipe rail, fence or my favorite if traveling with another rider, use the cable to link all the bikes together (cable will do 3 bikes). I park in front of my room with a window open.
Good luck and a pox on the private parts of all thieves...

A visual thief deterrent system is always a good first line of defense.
If a simple thief see's it's going to be a bitch to steal they will likely move on.

As for an alarm.

I have two 102db siren's wired into my Harley security system.
With the keyfob more than around 6' from the bike if the bike moves or the ignition turned on the sirens go off.

As others have noted; if it's a professional thief they are going to get it.
However as for mine if they don't know how to turn the siren off somebody's bound to hear it and I don't think a wanna-be thief will stick around to see if anyone cares.

Search the forum for instructions on how to install them and below is the link to the sirens.

I have a 3 year, flat rate insurance policy. This means if the bike is stolen within 3 years (day 1 or 1 before the policy expires) I get the same payout - no depreciation.

I've installed one of these: http://roadlok.com/ for when I'm away from my home/garage. Its convenient enough that I don't neglect to use it.

When I used to store outside, I always covered the bike under a "non-branded" cover, thinking thieves probably know what they're after before they steal it. No point in making the ID easy. As stated above, a determined and equipped thief can't really be stopped if he's got uninterrupted access. These days I've got a fence, dawgs, garages and no problems. You do what you can for the sake of your own security these days, regardless of what sort of neighborhood you live in.

It has already been mentioned but there was a time that I carried a long super heavy duty cable lock and I put it around my swing arm and attached it to the other bike, that was with me, the same way and locked it. If I was concerned about theft at home, I could use the same cable lock and attach it to something solid that couldn't be moved.

I used to ride with a guy that had a pretty good anti-theft system. When parking his bike in a questionable area, he would put on a brake disk rotor lock but then also remove the spark plug wires. The only way to steel his bike would be to carry it. Simple and effective.
