Great looking bike by the way man
Thanks Ink, I think that's whats going to happen. Did you powder coat your's? I'm looking at the wrinkle black stuff from Harley because I would like it to match the color and texture of the engine cases, so it blends in and I don't get the contrast line between the parts also looking real hard at the skull and chain timer cover in smoked chrome just to give a little accent without getting too bright.

mines just all the factory wrinkle black. Though I had to redo everything that was wrinkled as the aluminium started to chalk up and lift the factory wrinkle in many places. I used the high temp VHT wrinkle black. It's not quiet as fine as the factory wrinkle but seem as though I had to redo it all, I didn't have that problem of it not blending in. Here's a close up pic

Finish look professional, but like I said the wrinkle isn't as fine as the factory but it's damn close.

Im really interested in how the HD wrinkle they sell turns out, I get this feeling it might be hard to replicate by the process we would do it in, as it would be far from the mega dollar equipment used in Harley factory's painting these bikes. I used the factory HD denim black originally on my latest build, and while it was close to the same finish, I couldn't get that exact factory finish, so I ended up changing the paint completely.

A little tip incase you're new to using wrinkle, lay it on heavy, to the point it's almost about to run. But don't let it run as you'll have to strip it and redo it. After a third heavy coat, grab the misses hair dyer and constantly go back and forth over it. After a few minutes you'll start to see it get a lumpy look, keep at it with the hair dryer for several more minutes until you can't see the wrinkles getting any more fine in texture. Then leave it sit, what ever you do don't touch it as it's super thick paint and while it looks like it's dried on the surface, it's like touching the layer over a rice pudding, you will leave a stretch mark you cannot fix. Leave it until the next day if you can before handling it. A week roughly until it's fully hardened

The even heavy coats helps for a good consistent wrinkle, the hair dryer also helps getting it to winkle consistently. Without a consistent thick paint or heat thrown at it, you'll get a inconsistent wrinkle. Hope that helps, good luck with it all!

I went gloss on mine becuase the pipes are kinda flat and the gloss makes em stand out. Plus after doing gloss forks and gloss everything else, it made sense.

Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes I forget that your's started out as a Nightrain.

I'm interested in how the HD stuff compares to the factory finish on the rest of the engine cases. I think I'm going to go ahead and order the cam and primary, if I don't like it there is always the classifieds.

I think it looks good. I think Harley kinda dropped the ball with our bikes, they mixed so many flat and gloss parts that it makes it hard to get a consistent look without having to re-powder coat a whole lot of parts. I have been checking out some of what the Slim guys have done and since their bikes already have a gloss frame and oil tank I think the gloss is a no brainer with that model

I am so looking forward to this new engine line and all the bikes they derive from it. So many opportunities; like maybe a real sport touring machine!
