Now that's over the top... literally and figuratively! I'd be interested in seeing it fully loaded with gear, but it sure does look functional. Nicely done.

Thanks guys. I'll load it down and get pictures after I get it painted.

It's on the quick disconnect spools and latches. It comes off in 3 seconds. I can now carry a weeks worth of stuff and leave it all, rack included, in a hotel room or tent.

And I guess I thought you'd use some hard Pelican type cases
instead of softside duffels.

Here's a picture of a Sportster loaded up using Pelican cases....

Hmmmm.....I hadn't thought of the Pelican case option. I need one as a top box for my BMW, anyway.

Looks like you spent a good deal of time designing and building that rack. Fabricating your own one off pieces is always rewarding. I've always liked the Softail Slims and FatBoys but carrying stuff for a long haul has been the downside. I am very fortunate in having a heavy hauler as well as the Slim. Looks like you solved the issue. Four of my 5 BMWs were baggers being RTs and Flying Bricks with bags, but the Pelican cases would do the trick.

It's true. I just like making stuff anyway; making stuff for the bike adds to the fun.

My other bike is a BMW R1200GS with hard bags. It does most of my long haul riding, but there are times when the destination calls for the HD. Although this the Slim won't always be my long haul choice, at least I can do it now.

The GS is a nice dual purpose bike. Darn things sit so tall. All my BMWs except the R1200C sat tall, you'd think all Germans were 6'2" tall. Of course the GS has "panniers" instead of bags!! lol
