I believe the S series has the 255 cam in it.
I think compression release might be the cure.
Why would a cam swap or in this case when an advancement in timing cause your starter to fail?
Did the starter simply DIE? Or did it eventually correct it self?

I've had my Slim S since October and have not had an issue with the starter dying or starting the bike right up. Even during the cold winter months while stored in a non heated shed I would keep it attached to a tender and turn it over every now and then without issue. Since installing the Rinehart 2 into 1 she seems to explode into life when I start her up. I love that sudden BURST of SOUND in the morning!! lol

Just for clarity, my engine starts quickly and as Gr82bagr describes, "explodes into life." The problem with my starter is that the internal clutch slips sometimes, especially in the cold, and I have to let off until everything is at rest and hit it again. Every now and then, it will repeat and I have to hit it a third time.

I put mine on the tender every day when I return from work. The battery is solid and the motor has no problem igniting. I think the starter is just weak or faulty.

Issue's with the starter bindex would wear out.
I didn't have compression release on the motor ie: Manuel or auto.
It seamed with the 255 cams it was harder to start.
Do not know if the 110 has auto compression release but that might be something to look into.

I was thinking that either compression or as SLV. Said relating to clutch slip among other things; might cause reluntant starts. A robust starter would power through just about anything that may not sinc with the ecm. But not a weak starter. Just an off the seat of my pants assumption. Not fact.
My starter is weak. Was either built on a Monday, or in China

My Fatboy S is going to the Dealer again tomorrow, the second time the light on the left side of the dash isn't working (can't see the L signal or the high beam blue light). There's something about my Harleys and electrics!!!

Anyway I will again bring up my hard cold start problems. Last time they said my battery was just fine. I will also discuss the rims issue.

What is the average fuel range for these bikes? I'm getting right around 140 miles when the fuel light comes on. My rides are about 80-90% freeway in the 70-75 mph range. I thought I would get more range out of the bike. I average about 4 gallons per fill up which is giving me right around 35 mpg.

I have soft lowers and a 18" windshield as well as the stock tune, intake and exhaust.

I'd say about 35mpg also. My fuel light comes on right around 140 miles, usually has a gallon left though yesterday it told me I had 25 miles left but it took 3.8 gallons. I'm always confused with it, my range when full changes from 175 to 135 so I really don't have a clue.

Sorry if that's not very helpful. I try to fill up after about 120 miles or so because I don't trust my range or the fuel gauges (got the one on the speedo/tacho as well).

I get right at 42. The big windshield and soft lowers cause a lot of drag.

And now, with more parts coming

She is getting there. Still have my exhaust coming from Squeeks Big Twins and figuring out which bars I am going with.
