Default Stock 05 softail cam selection

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and am seeking advice, etc. on the following:

I have an 05 softail deluxe with SE breather and true dual fishtails. No tuner and not sure whether or not the bike was tuned after the previous owner installed the mods.

Here is what I am looking to do. Considering the S&S 583C, chain drive cams with new lifters, high flow oil pump and adj. pushrods. Want to get the most out of the bike with so called "bolt in cams" without breaking the bank.

According to the S&S website these cams are ideal for the softail with low compression. Any input from those who have had experience with these cams?

Note: I am not looking for info on the 585 cams or easy start cams.

Thanks

Wrath

The son went with some 551's,, but.. I'll also say the a lot of member like and love the SE 204 and Andrews 21's or Andrew 26's for a great increase and they are easy on the engine and top end .

I picked the 26h's for my 96 and I really like them.. they are NOt the best you can get for Peak TQ and HP.. but they will give a 20% increase across the sheet if tuned righteously and are easy on the engine so it will last alot longer than the stock setup if maintained and cared for

another vote for 21's or 26's.....I'm not about peak numbers since they normally happen so high up in the power band you rarely reach them an have to beat the snot out of the bike to achieve them. the 21's an 26's give you a stout increase across the rpm range, improve low an mid where you spend 80% of your riding an aren't too hard on the valves.

Wrath I can't tell you anything about the 583's. I am getting ready to do the same with my 06 Softy with TC88. The cams that I am looking at and were recommended by two different independents for the way I ride, usually solo and mostly cruising, is the S&S 509'sa. Another indy I talked to recently has had experience with Andrews cams and recommended the 26's for my style. I'm not interested in a ***** to the wall motorcycle. I just like a good cruising bike with some torque.
There are a lot of good cam choices out there. Key to the whole thing will be the tune.

From what I gather about the S&S 583's is that they are considered a "bolt-in" cam for the 2005 TC88 motor. The heads on the 05 have a maximum lift of .590".

I spoke with the folks at S&S and although it took a bit of searching, they were able to tell me what these cams will produce in a Stock TC88:

87HP and 99ft/lbs of torque. They tend to drop off at 4800 RPM.

Thoughts? Experiences, etc.?

SPECS:
583: Optimized for use in the SoftailŽ/DynaŽ lines, this cam makes horsepower and torque that you can feel all the way through the rpm range, making the most power right where you need it:1500–5000rpm. Bolt-in
