If you got it in July 06 its in the same lot mine was, so odds are its going to need it.
One thing you should get hold of the dealer as soon as possible to get it taken care of. While I was having mine 'checked'. The service manager told me that they had only recieved 6 of the kits and they were going to use 4 on bikes that were on the showroom floor.
Apparently they are not allowed to sell them until AFTER thay have the 'fix' done to them, and because they only got 6 and they need 4 for bikes in house, that only leaves 2 for bikes already sold.
At least until they get more kits, but he wasn't sure when that would happen. I'm going to see about getting mine done today. But if they can't so it I'm not worried. I've had the problem 'fixed' for some time now with extra insulation rubber and canwait if necessary.
But I don't plan on tostop riding any time soon.
The weather God's are smiling around here and after last winter its too damn nice out not to.
If I understand the history of this correctly HD notified the NHTSA about it BEFORE the government knew anything about it
Citoriplus,
Do some homework and you will learn the truth. Owners have been complaining about this with the NHTSA since the 2007 model introduction. The NHTSA recall is dated earlier than the HD recall indicating the NHTSA took action before HD did. As I said before, thank Ralph Nader for the NHTSA and saving YOUR LIFE!!!

If that's true, then I stand corrected.
But as far as thanking Ralphey boy goes, forget it.
In my book he's just anotherlooney toon leftylooking forsome attention.
Any good he may or may not have done isovershadowed by his egotistical attitude that he's always right and the world is always wrong.
No thanks, I'llthank him to leave me alone and nothing more.
Can I assume that you were able to get the HD service bulletin from your dealer? I thought the pictures of the repair were very helpful to see exactly how the new setup works.
The service writer said not to ride it again until completed. I asked how I should get home and get the bike back to the dealer tomorrow. It hasn't burned up in 4300 miles so it'll probably last another 20 miles, I think I'll chance it.
And I'm up to 6,400....no flames so far....but I'll be sure to get the mod done ASAP....

I would be very interested to see a picture of this mod/improvement anyone that can post a picture please?
Ditto.
BTW, I bought my '07 Fat Boy last November and to date I've received nothing regarding this recall. If not for reading about it here, I wouldn't know it existed.
This forum is the reason I knew about it too. I still have not received anything from H-D. But, that shows what a good place this forum is. I feel a lot better now that mine has fianally been done correctly.
Although, while they were installing my chrome switch covers, they marred up the metal ends of the throttle cable and Idle cable. It looks like they used pliers on them. And they are loose at the housing end now. Previously they were tight there where the metal ends went into the switch housing.
I talked to their service manager today and he is ordering me some new cables.
