Default 510s

I'm about to install a 97 inch big bore kit on my 2006 FLSTC and have 510 gear driven cams installed in bike they woke up my stock TC 88 when I installed them way back when. My question is how will the 510s do in a larger displacement engine? I am trying to stay on a fairly tight budget, but different cams aren't out of the question since I already have the gears installed in the cam chest. I am also staying with the stock heads and compression ratio will be around 9.7. Thanks in advance for feedback.

should be a good upgrade- your 2006 is already geared well to go fast quickly- unlike us guys with the 2007-newer bikes ;p

Who's 510 cams are you looking at?

I would call and talk to a couple of experienced cam mfr's as you'll get some good answers and that will help you narrow your choices.

T-Man cams and talk to "TR"
Woods cams and talk to Bob Woods

^^ Both of these places are treasure troves of information. Their cam grinds and selections are excellent as well for street HD bikes.

Talk about your riding style (town, freeway, mostly 1-up or mostly 2-up, and any other mods you've done to the bike.

Give them your final overall drive ratio (3.15 for your bike)

Give them your exact static compression ratio, double check if it's 9.7:1 because a few points off either way can make a difference in the engine operating (dynamic) compression provided by the camshaft profile.

Every cam design has an optimal range of static compression and overall final drive gearing that it works best in. You can see your bike's gearing setup here, select the 06 Harley FLSTF from the drop list. http://woodsware.aciwebs.com/gears/

I guess I need to clarify. I already have S$S 510 gear driven cams in the bike now. They were installed back in 2007 at about 38K. I was wondering how those cams would perform with a larger displacement engine. Or, should I install different cams with a 97 inch engine. The bike now has about 90k now

ok yeh I see that I should have read your post a bit more closely. Have you called S&S to talk to their tech dept? Most of them are pretty sharp with their performance parts and custom engine builds.
