If the bike is completely stock and your exhaust header is getting read hot, there is something causing it to run lean like that and a tuner is not going to fix the problem only cover it up. Sounds like maybe you have a bad exhaust gasket or something worse involving the valves. (i'm leaning towards a valve issue)

I agree with Mickey.
Adding a tuner to correct issues with a stock bike is like putting lipstick on a pig.
The OP needs to fix what's causing the problem before adding a tuner in an attempt to compensate for the problem.
If all you want to do is richen it up, you can buy a Xied or Vied enrichment device for about $100 to $125. The Xied drops the a/f from 14.6/1 down to 13.8/1 the Vied is adjustable from about 14.4/1 to 13.8/1. They're just little in line extensions that you connect to your o2 sensor wires.. You can install them yourself in 15 min or so..
I first used the FL-Xied fix on my 2014 FLSTC. It's a cheap fix for the lean setting that came with it. It ran very hot when stock. Since then I've switched to a Vance and Hines Fuel Pak 3 and Vance and Hines true duals. I like the sound and the motorcycle runs cooler. With the Fuel Pak 3 you can download a map from V&H for your particular set up. You can auto tune as well. The neat part is that it also has a code reader to show you if some thing is wrong with the motorcycle. You can read a lot of different settings with your smart phone.
Rocker B, rjvin, my understanding is that the Xied and Vied both require 02 sensors. My 2006 Heritage does not have the bungs for the sensors in the header pipes, meaning that it does not have sensors. I also checked on the Fuel Pak 3 and it only works on 2011's and newer. I bought my Heritage used, so I don't know if the sensors were removed, but I believe that it is 100% stock and original.
Honestly.. all stock bikes runs LEAN..... Who is this mechanic.. A wrench at the dealership or a local INDY shop????
your dealer can do a flash, used to be around $200. but not needed until stg 1..
But even with a dealer flash you will still be EPA lean even after its done.... That's some just go ahead and get a tuner that can adjust the A/F ratio after engine and pipe mods...

I had ThunderMax installed on my 04 heritage. My indie also installed the bungs for the O2 sensors.. Pretty cheap
