Hey guys,
New to forum and thought I would post my current Night Train upgrade/repair. When I bought the bike last year, unbeknownst to me the pipes were chrome that had been painted black. Hard to tell until I started to wipe them down after they had been heat cycled a few times. I have attached a pic of them just after I removed them last week.
I studied threads here and spoke to a few coaters and decided on a local coater in Arlington, TX to creamic coat my pipes. He did not recommend removing chrome. He said to get the ceramic coating to stick to chrome there needs to be a good blast profile and he can achieve that with an aluminum oxide grit blast. They should be ready Next Wednesday. I will post pics of them before I put them on and after installation.
Who is doing the coating for you? I have used Patrick at Crosslink Powder Coat in Dallas multiple times for ceramic coating and he/they do a very good job. I have had them do both black and silver and have been happy with the results.
I used Specialized Performance Coating, Inc. in Arlington. I found a ceramic coating manufacturer via Google search and they had a way to search shops by zip codes that used their products. I'm ready to get them back on so I can ride in this gorgeous spring weather we are having!
I had the head pipes underneath the heat shields on both front and rear cylinders ceramic coated in silver before I installed them. I did so for 2 reasons at the time.
#1 was that I had read a lot of threads about the heat coming off the left side pipe of the Samson true duals and some riders complaining about the heat. I cant say how well it works because I never rode without the coating but I have no heat issues, the future wife doesn't complain about the heat either.
#2 is that my bike is pretty much chromed out and I do show it from time to time and I got tired of seeing that ugly bluing that shows from under the heat shields. This will be my 3rd season and some 10k miles later and they still look just like the day I put them on.
