I don't plan to use a kit, somebody said earlier, and I've heard this before, that if I cut the horns, get a new thinner pulley and belt, and a wider fender, I can basically bolt on a 200mm tire on an 18x5.5" wheel. I'm just not sure what hub should be used, or if that would matter.

Cutting the fender struts isn`t required.
180 or 200 tire on a 2004 fatboy. Wow, without cutting the fender struts.I would need to see some pictures for this one!!!
He can't remember where he put the pictures of the bike that he can't remember what size tire they put on using the kit that he can't remember where they got it from....but he DOES remember they moved the tire forward and that cured everything.

Pics are not necessary.

LOL...Hammer, there you go showing off your charming personality again. That was funny.

Oscar,

Anything over 160 will require cutting the strut horns, period. It's no big deal to whack them off and doesn't affect the frame integrity whatsoever. After they are gone, a 180or 200 max fits with your stock swingarm. I have an RCC 18 x 5.5 with an Avon 200 on my 2002 Fatboy, however I elected to use a stock size belt b/c I thought it looked better than the skinny belt. Nothing wrong with the skinny belt. I had no need to check in, call, ask or inquire any "KIT" maker about what to use; this isn't rocket science. Another minor reason I used the wider belt is b/c it was well established that it couldn't be done.

With that being said my tolerances are much tighter but I like a good challenge and it was fun to do.

Check out my gallery of some of my build, and I also had a thread going with measurements. I deleted a lot of pictures b/c I needed the space.

So if I used the skinnier belt and pulley, it wouldn't matter what wheel I used? Sorry for kind of stupid quesitons, I'm just tryin to figure out and plan everything before I start buying.

if I'm not mistaken the wheel should have a duece hub so there is no need to machine the stock caliper. I got all the pieces to do the 200 Chops but I'm gonna wait until winter to do it. Kills me when I walk into the garage with all them new parts staring at me but it's time to ride for the next 7 months.

Ok guys, just got off the phone with Mike at DM customs. Looks like we were both right chops. The kit we used had a fiberglass fender and did not require cutting the struts and the reason for moving the wheel forward was to center it in the radius of the fender. If you use a metal fender then you do have to cut the struts. The fiberglass fender alone is $600 and the kit is about $1500 where the steel fender kit is about $1900 if you want to stick with the 60 spoke wheel.

I knew we used a 180 without cutting the struts but I did`nt realize that it was because of the fiberglass fender.

I wouldn't take any of this personal copperhead. thing is about harleys they have so many little things that are different what might have worked for Chop's fatboywon't work on somebody else's train. Example I got 9" fender that I need to space at the mounting tabs. the guy I bought it from would have had to grind it to fit his bike. I had an 04 standard next to my 05 train this weekend and there was a solid 1/4" difference in the width of the frame rails. there are differences in these frames. when you're dealing with 1/8" tolerances everything isn't always gonna work. stick around long enough and you'll find humor in Hammer02.
