Hi Nellis, No I didn't need to off set either. The rear wheel (the wider one) actually is off set slightly to the right side, designed this way from the factory.
This, I've heard from a Harley Technician, is to compensate for the weight of the primary sticking out to the left side of the bike.
The off setting of gearbox/trans is only on the older EVO equipped bikes from what I've been lead to believe.
I only took the primary off mine to replace the old wide belt with a new narrow one (20mm) to fit the rear pulley and allow for clearance between the tyre and belt.
