There are several quick release systems for the Heritage bags. I'd like to know what rider's experiences have come from owning the different systems? HD, Easy Brackets, Bare Backs, etc.
Please let me know about your experiences:
1. Installation process, issues,
2. Bag mounting and removal.
3. Long term issues.
4 Quality of system.
I like the simple bolts/studs on the Heritage myself. When I take my bags off I have some stainless socket head cap screws I put back in the brackets for a nice clean and finished look. What I don't like about some of the other bag mounts is when you have the bags off it looks like the bags are just simply missing (now I will be honest, I haven't seen all of the mounts on the market in person, so maybe some don't look "unfinished" with the bags off). Mine looks like a Deluxe with the bags off. Looks like it's supposed to be that way. And only takes a few minutes to put them on or take them off.
I have the QR brackets from Viking. They use the stock fender strut bolt locations using grooved spacer under the bolt head.
Simple bolt-on deal
They are decent quality
They make the bags stick out quite a ways
Easyon and off. I like that I can simply take them off when I get to an overnight destination as if they were luggage.
They lock onto the bike
And now for the Big Caveat....
Their website (at the time I ordered anyway) said "In Stock - Same Day Shipping"
The truth was, that MAYBE they were in stock, but they didn't ship for over a week. They charged my CC the same day as I ordered tho.
I would have thought that they would have used expedited shipping since they have a flat $25 fee for shipping, but it seems they used the slowest possible way. They say they have shipping locations at strategic points across the country. I'm in Central California, and I've received stuff from Europe in less time.
I've got the Barebacks and they're great. In less than 30 seconds both bags are off! If you don't care for the "somethings missing" look when they're off, you can buy magnetic caps that go over the fender strut mounts for about $15. The Barebacks are solid as a rock, I've never had any issues with them. Another perp is the folks at Cycle Visions that produce them are great "family" people. List price is $149.95 but they're worth every penny of it. I almost hate to be self promoting here but I've got 3 sets on Ebay right now, brand new for $97.50 for different models. '00-'16 Softail set is item #122022558164. Hope this helps you out. Good luck and ride safe.
Actually, I "did have" the HD quick release system/kit for the Heritage... I installed it and took it right back off and sold it. Refer to my original post for the reason... But just so we're clear, it looks like **** is missing or I'm supposed to tie a rope across my rear fender. Neither of which is acceptable for MY BIKE.
Bluraven, after about 6 beers, crow taste like chicken anyway

I'm with racerkvn on this one. Takes maybe 5 minutes to take the bags off....no "quick release" needed imo.
