I posted in the electrical section but I'm not getting any bites there, so here goes:
Over the weekend I discovered my lights aren't coming on. I turn the ignition on and the headlight comes on and the left front turn signal come son, but that's it! The brake light comes on when I hit the front and rear brakes. And all the turn signals work when I activiate them, however they aren't on during normal operation. I checked the fuse, and that's fine. I don't think it's the bulb because they still light up when I activate them. I won't be able to bring it in to the stealership until at least Wednesday. Anybody seen anything like this? Do you think this may have something to do with the new recall?
The rear turn signals only activate when you use the turn signal. Unless you've added the running lamp kit, they don't light up during normal operations. I would start by changing the bulb in the right front turn signal and see if it will illuminate during normal operation. Sometimes vibration will damage a bulb. Sorry, probably not much help.
Old geezer is right. The front bulbs are 1157's and they have two elememts one for running lights and the other for the turn function.
The rear light bulbs are 1156's and they only have the one element for the turn signal function, unless you added the run, turn, brake module like he said.
Best bet is you have a broken or burned out element in that front bulb, its a5 minute fix.
Be advised that when i biought my 06 springer Classic there were issues and later found out that there were a substantial number of wiring harnesses that left the factory installed in bikes that were wired incorrectly. It is a mater of letting the dealership know to check for this and call HD to get the correct wirring configuration after thatI had no problems. This may not apply to your bike but is an option to look into.
I'm going to go down to the dealership on wednesday and at least get free bulbs since it is still under warranty. Plus there are a couple of little minor things I want them to fix for me. Like tightening up a couple of things. I also want to find out about this recall in person rather than get the runaround over the phone. They told me it will be a few weeks before they even get parts.
