I'm not to sure what its called but I have heard a rummor that the HD cams are driven by a plastic gear vs. chain driven and that starts to chip/fragment over time and clogs up the oil filter resulting in engine damage.
Has anyone heard of this frighting rumor ???????
Its seems HD knows of this and refuses to do anything about it, meaning the problem, if not caught before the end of your warenty will be your expense even though HD knows this will happend to most new bikes within the first 10,000 miles.
There was an issue with some of the EVO motors as they used a plastic breather gear which was known to self destruct...
I have not heard of any plastic gear problems with the twinkie though.... Bill?
Sounds like a mixed up version of the Twinkie cam chain tensioner story. The Twinkie motor's cams are chain driven. The chain is tensioned by a shoe, similar to that used in the primary. Some have prematurely worn and caused problems. It's easy to check if you are at least a bit mechanically inclined.
Personally, I would pay the bucks for a swap-out to gear driven cams on any Twinkie I owned.
