Will it re engage if you put the key in. I have one and if I leave the key in the open position, it will just spin. I pop it out and twist it by hand while setting the key right.
I've been using it that way for a few months. Tonight, I went to put it back on after fueling up, and it just spun, without engaging the locking mechanism in order to tighten it. When I got home, I played around with it, and got it to work intermittently. I lubed it, and worked the lock back and forth. Sometimes, it works as normal. Other times, it just spins around without catching. I don't trust it at this point. I'd like to take it apart and see what's going on inside it, but I can't figure out how to do that without destroying it.
Does the mechanism need to be lubed with some Door-Ease or something similar?
After I got home, I lubed it with silicone spray, and it worked for a short while, then started spinning freely again. So I tired cable lube (graphite), and same result. Worked for a little while then began spinning again. If I play around with the key, working the lock back and forth, I can get it to work, but it's intermittent.

Cheers!
**** I better be careful filling up. Thanks for the heads up.

No worries. If it happens to you, try turning the key in the lock back and forth as far as it will go a few times. That seems to be the trick to getting it to work again, at least temporarily.
