Heritage softail 2016 - heat
Just put 12000km/7500miles on my new 2016 softail. I'm finding it runs very hotmail impaired to my 04, understandingly with the larger engine. What are you doing to cool it down if anything? I have some burns on my right leg even with wearing chaps. Thanks for your thoughts.

Is your bike stock specifically regarding the air cleaner and exhaust pipes? The stock engines run quite lean which will cause them to run hot. Using an open intake will worsen the lean condition without remapping the ECM.
Here are a few measures you can take:
1. Switch to synthetic oil if you haven't already done so
2. Either purchase an AFR enricher (FL-Xied or FL-Vied) or a tuner
3. You may also look into a Captain Itch crotch cooler

Thanks. I have stock pipes and exhaust. I've already switched out to syn 3 and will have my service guy look at the remapping. Will explore ECM and the crotch cooler!

New exhaust, preferably a full system to get rid of the catalytic converter, add a free-flow air cleaner and a good EFI Stage 1 tuner - there are quite a few available.
I personally recommend a V&H FuelPak 3.
The decrease in heat will be huge.

Prior Heritage have the cats in the mufflers, if the 2016 is the same, install a pair fo slip ons, 75% of your heat will be gone. A flash tuner like the V&H Fp3 will also cool things even further. You can invest in a Wards fan set up for another gain. Go to DK Custom web site, he has an extensive write up on lowering engine heat.

I have. 13 Heritage 110. It was hot in traffic to the point of burning my leg, like was mentioned. I put in a thunder max tuner and a Rush Wrath ceramic exhaust. About $1500 it's a shame you have to do this but it cooled it down tremendously. Good luck.
