Default Low Profile Tank Console (71208-07) on 2011-newer softails. The Final Solution!!!

Hi everyone,

I have a 2011 Fat Boy Lo and never liked the looks of the original console. I always thought it was too bulky, so when I tried to find a better looking console, I found HD's Low Profile Tank Console (Part # 71208-07). But, the problem was that the indicator lights of it were designed for the softails that are only up to 2010, since Harley changed the 2011-newer ones to the CAN BUS system the connection would not work. I tried many solutions for a long time and finally got it to work. So this is what I did. I bought these 3mm super bright led's that already come with their resistors attached, bought the original conector and pins and wired it all together. Simple as that! Here are the pictures and step-by-step explanation:

1) Got the LED's.

2) Got the conector and pins.

3) Tagged the LED's to match the color of the indicator lights (used three greens, one blue and one red)

4) Put it all together.

5) Tested the connection.

6) Got the lights that come with the low profile console and with a Dremel I cut their ends to pull the lights that come with it off.

7) Put the LED's in

8) Used some black silicone to seal them in

9) Mounted the console back on the bike and it all worked just fine! Here's a little video of it working:

THAT'S IT! VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION!

Felipe,

Nicely done. Thanks for the pictures and video.

The combo speedometer is too deep for the low profile console due to the plug on the rear. How did you modify it to make it fit?

Now if I can only locate a low profile console.

Nice work Felipe.
Great write-up, well communicated and easy to understand.
Thank you.

You're obviously happy with the result.
Likely increases market place value of an otherwise obsolete part ;-)

One thing I forgot to show you is how I did the wiring. It's pretty simple:

I got the LED's from an ebay like site here from Brazil. It shouldn't be so hard to find other ones around.
