Default Voltage regulator or stator

So I took the scooter out to look at a house this evening. She started fine when I left and even after I stopped 3 times. Then I go to head home and I got nothing not even a taillight/headlight. Buddy swings by, we jump it starts right up but as soon as I remove the cable off of the battery she dies. Now I'm gonna do some testing tomorrow and install a new battery but just wondering if anyone has ran into or heard of this problem.

Assuming you don't have any loose cables, the voltage regulator is the most likely failure, but stators do fail too.

There are stickys in the Electrical/Lighting/Alarm forum to troubleshoot and diagnose charging system failures. You'll need a voltage meter (VOM) that also reads resistance.

stator should be putting out about 20-22v at idle and regulator about 14.5. Check stator first, then go from there.

Well did you put a new battery in?
My bet is that's the problem.

If the stator or regulator was causing problems you should be getting battery and check engine lights and trouble codes.

Do yourself a favor and get a voltage gauge.
That's how I knew that my battery was draining.

It's a well worth $40.

I have not put a battery in it yet, I worked late this evening and everywhere closed at 6 but tomorrow is another day. I have no dash so therefore I have no "check engine light" or any other lights for that matter. After I put a battery in it and get it to stay running I will put a volt meter and check continuity at stator/regulator. Batteries just don't die like this did. No symptoms before it happened. Started 3 times that day and then the 4th it didn't have poop, not even enough to run my headlight.

If it does turn out to be the regulator I recommend Cycle Electrics.
I just put one in a month ago and am very pleased.
