I am new to Harley's, just bought my first one, it was delivered yesterday. Got a new Softail FXST. I have had a few bikes in the past but this is my first big street bike (had only Yamaha enduros). Took it out today for a quick ride, waiting for my gear to come (helmet), ordered most of it on the net. It rides great, the only thing is I am not use to is the weight. When you slow down to almost a stop you have to get your feet down quick (nothing like those 200lb enduros). I'll take it on a lot short rides until I get use to it.Attached a pic, not to great, took it in the garage.
I am glad I went up to a Harley, goingtohave a lot fun this summer.
Congrats on the new bike! I like how you said "went UP to a Harley". Indeed! Good choice.
You'll get used to the weight in no time. Just last week I got on the old Honda that I practiced with last year, and it seemed like a little toy. Felt like I could pick it up & throw it. Haha.
It will come to you quick. I am new to the HD world myself. I have an 07 Fat Boy. I have put 2000 miles on it in 2 months. The weight of the bike is intimidating at first but after a couple 1000 miles you will be okay. Hell, I am even going to apes already!!
Congrats on the new bike. I am also fairly new to HD. Had mine for just about a year at this point. You get used to it real quick, I was used to sport bikes, now I can't even imagine being on anything else. Good choice on the standard, it allows you to customize to your tastes. Good Luck.
BTW, if you use your front brake only at slow speeds, like coming to a stop, it makes it a bit easier to balance the bike. Then you can gracefully lay your feet on the pavement once you've stopped.
