Default New mods.....new for me at least.

Well guys....it's been almost 2 weeks since I bought the bike. I love it. Now I'm ready to change a couple of things. The handlebars gotta go, not because I don't like the apes but because the bike won't fit through the door to my courtyard. I'm looking to go with the HD Street Slammers or the Wild1 model 500drag bars(6" rise).

Don't know whether to keep the turn signals on the bars as they are now on the apes, or to relocate them to the forks.

I'm also going to change the exhaust to the V&H Big Shot staggard with the quiet baffles. I like how they look, nice and tight, and have read on here that the quiet baffles give it a deeper tone.....as opposed to the raspy, popping, noise it puts out now with the screaming eagles.

I know I'm going to have to switch out all the lines for the new bars.

Appreciate any advice or additional ideas on the above. Thanks.

Thanks. I actually just figured out what kind they were and looked them up. Here's the link: http://www.xtrememachineusa.com/

Looks like they don't come in black, so the previous owner must have painted them.

I've also got Performance Machine brakes on the front and rear, andXtreme Machine matching pulley andwavey rotors.

I just got a quote from a local shop of $300-$400 to swap out my bars, which includes running new cables and electrical lines inside the bars. Does that seem a little high?

I looked at some Buffalo Drag bars that were like $239. You add on the new cables and lines, plus install, I'm looking at almost a grand!!!

Geez - all to switch out some bars. Not as easy as I thought I guess.

I like the bars on the bike sure there isn't anything you can do to keep them? By how much are they to high? That price does seem about right. It's not cheap to change em.

I don't think you could mount the signals on the bars, using the 500's - might hit the tank. I went with the 501's myself and like the extra height to them. Just my opinion here, but I like the looks of relocating the signals to the forks with any type of drag or T-bar. It's your bike though, so whatever floats your boat is all that matters at the end of the day.

The price you were quoted is about normal, but you should consider doing it yourself. I have done this now on 4 bikes, and it's not too bad. I sweated the first one big time, don't get me wrong. But, with a shopmanual and some research prior, you should be fine. Lot's of people here that will help you get over any technical ?'s also.

For any of the bars you mentioned, I would just order stock length cablesfor a softail standard. They'll be long enough and fit right. If going with braided, I have found Magnum Chromites are nice for the money, or you could go with HD's ice cables and hit the 20% discount from one of the sites seen here all the time and spend about as much on them. Shop around for the bars too - lot's of deals and free shipping if you look into it. Your wires will just need to be shortened if the previous owner didn't just use a plug-n-play harness to begin with.

Plus, when you're done somebody will surely offer you some good coin for your current set-up so you can re-coupa sizeable chunkof your money spent.

Well, I need the bars to be no more than 33 inches wide, tip to tip with grips on. I believe I'm currently at 37 or something like that. If I could find some decent apes that weren't as wide, I suppose it would:
a) solve my width problem
b) save me a lot of money
c) keep the look of the apes which I kind of like.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Here's an option: http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup...nd=nycchoppers

They're 32" wide.

I like these too, but just don't know how they'll look on a Fatboy: http://shopheavencycle.com/productde...;catalogId=643

I love the Roland Sands Vintage seat kit and fender too,but that's another story.
